CLASS FOCUS: Advanced Classes at EGC are technically USA Gymnastics Level 2. USAG recently added this program as the beginner most competitive level. EGC does not at this time compete Level 2 athletes. However, we do introduce Competitive Gymnastics to our Advanced Students through an 'intergym' competition hosted at EGC called the Advanced Challenge. We host this annually to give our Advanced students a taste of gymnastics competition.
There is really no difference in our curriculum for the Advanced Kinder & Advanced Level students other than age and presentation of material.
Advanced students are now learning complex & difficult gymnastics skills on all the events. We boast that upon completion of this level nearly every student is capable of earning the Presidential Physical Fitness Awards - ranking in the top 10% in the country!
This level builds on the skills learned in the Intermediate Classes. More class time is allotted in that the skills at this level are much more difficult to master. A larger emphasis is placed on strength & flexibility to make more challenging skills attainable. Advanced students are introduced to more intricate gymnastics skills on all of the various gymnastics equipment. The students work on all of the gymnastics equipment - Floor (tumbling), Bars, Balance Beam, Vaulting, Trampoline.... The gymnasts at this level can expect to learn Round-off Back Handsprings, Front Tucks, Hip Circles on the Bars, Cartwheels on the Beams... as well as the equivalent Advanced level skills on the various equipment. Our Advanced classes are fun, safe and a great way to continue growing in the sport.
The average Advanced student takes a school year to master this level. Students successful at this class are promoted to Advanced Recreational II or invited to try out for our prestigious Team Lightning Pre-teams.
Advanced II - is a recreational class for athletes who are at the competitive levels of gymnastics, and for whatever reason choose not to enter competitive gymnastics. Advanced II is popular with athletes who compete in other sports & former competitive gymnasts who want a life.
